A journey through the Mendoza wine region: the family business Bodega Norton and the tasting of the Semillón from 1959
The Mendoza wine region in Argentina is widely known for its stunning vineyards and exquisite wines. In the midst of this picturesque wine country rises the prestigious family business Bodega Norton, which embodies a rich tradition and dedication to winemaking. A visit to this winery is like a journey through the history and flavors of Mendoza, and I recently had the privilege of tasting a true wine rarity: a Semillón from 1959.
The fascination of Mendoza
The Mendoza wine region, framed by the majestic Andes, enchants with its impressive landscape and endless vineyards. Grapes thrive here in the favorable climate and diverse soils that make Mendoza one of the most renowned wine-growing regions in the world. The region is rich in picturesque villages, olive groves and, of course, vineyards.
Bodega Norton
Bodega Norton, founded in 1895, is a proud family business that has passed down the love and dedication to winemaking through generations. The winery has built an outstanding reputation for premium wines, reflecting the essence of Mendoza in every bottle.
Tasting the Semillón from 1959
On my last visit to Bodega Norton, I had the unique opportunity to taste a Semillón from 1959. This wine, which was resting in the winery's cellar, promised a journey into the past and the flavors of another age. In the presence of Bodega Norton's team of experts, the time capsule was opened.
The 1959 Semillón showed an astonishing vitality, with aromas of honey, dried fruit and a subtle spiciness. The golden color and complexity of the bouquet bore witness to six decades of aging.
Every sip of this wine was like a step back into the history of Mendoza and Bodega Norton. The vine that produced the grapes for this wine was part of the winemaking tradition that has shaped this region.
